CULT / Tempest
A pedal to reproduce true distortions which are born from the legendary valve amplifiers loved by the legends. Although this concept is classical and many similar products already exist in the market, what we had thoroughly pursued with Tempest was the “amp scaled” tone. Like amps contributed to the rise of rock, organic harsh distortion, dynamic range which can reproduce even the differences of the players, the impact that one may feel as if the sound is beating against you, they are all required elements to be “amp scaled” tone. On the other hand, from the view point of adaptability with other equipments, playability and handiness, many players are demanding it to be “pedal scaled” product. Although it may resulted somehow in abandoning those favored elements, we present what CULT believe to be true distortion, by pursuing how real it could be.

Volume
Adjusts the volume and sound pressure. The more you turn the volume, the tone becomes clearer, more amp-like texture and playing feel is achieved.

Distort
Adjusts the amount of distortion. Actual amplification level at the gain stage is controlled by how the Distort is being set. In accordance with the amount of distortion, sense of compression and low end shaping changes.

Depth
Adjusts the low end. This has been designed to achieve the texture of controlling power amp section rather than the tone stack or the filter of the preamp section. No matter how highly dialed, the tone does not collapse and adjusts the band which brings the depth and width of the tone.

Presence
Adjusts high end. Adjusts so-called “bite” or “attackiness”, coming from the bandwidth drives from the picks scratching strings. It evokes the negative feedback control of the power amp.

Power
Functions with stabilized DC 9V (20mA or more) external power source. Due to environmental preservation viewpoint, this pedal does not function with disposable internal power source (batteries).

DESIGN
The undesired operation of control knobs which could happen at any time during transportation while kept in the cases, being kept at backstage or on stage, the use in recording or live situations are tend to become serious troubles for players and guitar/bass technicians. In order to solve this issue, we have designed CULT original enclosure which highly omits bumps of control knobs. This enables all the controllability of knobs, viewability of the settings and prevention of erroneous operations simultaneously.
In order to realize this complex structure and detailed design of the enclosure, we have applied light weighed and highly robust “Extra Super Duralumin” alloy. Since all the enclosures are scraped from extra super duralumin material with high accuracy, it enables to reproduce internal structure which requires precision while maintaining robustness. Also, since all the letters are engraved by patented technology based laser beam machining, necessary information will not be worn away.

CIRCUIT
In order to realistically reproduce the distortions which are to be born from high output so-called legend vintage amps, we have applied the circuit which we have achieved after countless experiments. The overloaded amplifier element itself creates distortion, which then been shaped by the tone stack circuit designed in the same style as the actual amplifiers, further connected to different amplification circuit, all contributing to reproduce the structure close to the actual amplifiers, and simultaneously achieved in having rational tone controller at the final stage of the circuit. Almost all the components used for the circuit are so-called overengineered ones, which are designed to be used under higher voltage than ordinary guitar pedals, but these were essential for the reproduction of the elements required to be “amp scaled”.

WARRANTY
The warranty period of Tempest is 5 years from the production.
All Tempest pedals have production date engraved on its bottom. We guarantee the quality of the product under ordinary use situation for 5 years from that date. This guarantee applies to all the users including second and further owners. The repair during this warranty period is done free of charge.
*It will be beyond warranty when the damage is occurred on the ones modified or repaired by the third party, the cosmetic change such as scratches or stains, the damage is due to the wrong operation or disasters. The shipping fee for the repair is to be covered by the client.
